Described as "the greatest fell walker of all time" Alfred Wainwright compiled his Pictorial Guides of the Lakeland fells between 1955 to 1966 to serve as an "aide memoir" for when he could no longer climb his beloved fells. After a sale of over a million copies world wide, his defined routes were more recently updated by Chris Jesty to take take into account the changes and repairs to the paths and routes of the Fells over the intervening years.

"Wainwright Fell Bagging" is the fell walkers holy grail of collecting all the 214 fell tops outlined in the guides, and
this site is all about my humble attempt of doing just that.
The desire to do this site is partly for my own "aide memoir" when the joints give up and I can only live on memories. Given that my other passion is playing Squash - that day may be sooner than I think !! - and also the excellent Fell Walking Diaries by Sean McMahon of StridingEdge.net set a standard
that cannot fail to inspire like minded people to get out there
and do the same.

As I start out, a fell novice compared with others more great and good, you will discover that I am not the most gifted photographer or, (given that I work in I.T.) the greatest Web Site designer either - come to that ! - but I look forward to the challenge of taking on the 214 fells and improving my knowledge of the geography of Lakeland.
