A 3D visual of the walk

Arnison Crag is the first walk depicted in Book 1 of Wainwrights Fell walking guides. Easily reached from the main road running

through Patterdale and what I would describe as “filler in” to do if the weather is too uncertain for a more longer walk

The walk starts outside The White Lion Inn car park in Patterdale. There is space for several xcars at the side of the main road

Follow the path that runs between the car park and some houses

The path winds its way round to Mill Moss

After about five minutes the path leads to a gate which gives access to the open fell side

Follow the path round through the line of crags to the Glemara park boundary wall

Arnison Crag from the path way

At the gate way stay to the left of the boundary wall and follow the track upwards towards Oxford Crag

Oxford Crag from further up the path

First glimpse of the southern end of Ullswater

It’s the middle of May and Helvellyn is still snow capped !!

The pathway now starts to get squeezed a little between the crags and the boundary wall as it starts to swing round for the summit approach

Ste the leads the way to the summit

To the east Angletarn Pikes

The massive bulk of Place Fell dominates the view

Hartsop Dodd and Caudale Moor
