Overview
I had intended this day to
be an assault on Haystacks, but with very dark, swirling low cloud and strong
wind it was obvious that
this was not a good idea. I decided to abandon the walk and
head back to the apartment via Keswick. I had set off in the car from
Buttermere on
the road heading towards Newlands Hause
initially then Keswick. As I approached the car park at the Hause there
were quite a few people making their way up the generous
grassy lower slopes of Knott Rigg. There was a
glimmer of sunshine and I
thought, why not, so off I set after parking up
From the car park the
ridge walk to the summit is very clearly defined
As I gain height looking
back towards Buttermere and the ensuing gloom
Having passed Knott Rigg summit the winds started to really pick up. The ridge
itself is not all that wide and care was needed. Here looking
back towards the summit
Looking back across the
Keswick road towards High Hole Beck in full flow
At the summit of Ard Crags looking towards Causey Pike shrouded in low cloud
that was threatening to come in my direction. At this point
the journey back to the car
park was the sensible option
