Overview
The first day of our week long stay
in Ambleside and after the unpack and Grocery shop we
seized the opportunity of a quick walk whilst the
weather was dry. High Rigg is an
excellent small fell to introduce to novice fell walkers and offers fantastic
views out towards Keswick
From
the A591 Northbound take the B5322 towards St Johns in the Vale and turn left
at a sign posted for the Church and Diocesan Youth centre
There
is free parking for several cars

Carry
on down the path and through the gate that leads on to the open fell side
immediately on the left
The
path climbs gently past a bench and skirts the left hand
side of the crags

Looking
North towards Skiddaw from the path
A
path cut out in the area of ferns is clearly visible
The
path through the ferns zig-zags its way towards the summit mound which is approached
from the left

Strange
light over Bassenthwaite Lake. We stayed on top for
about 30 minutes just admiring the views and watching the changing mid
evening
light. Unfortunately this gave way to rain showers
which was to be the feature of the week
