Walk Overview
The hardest part of this walk is to actually get parked up in your car. Kentmere
is notorious for a distinct lack of ability to park, since the local Council in their
wisdom decided that the Farmer can not open up his field to allow parking for
many cars. With approximately 6 or 7 spaces near the Church it requires
being there at 7am at the very latest !!. We arrived at @ 10am and had no chance
however, we back tracked a little down the narrow road and took the
Lowfield Lane turn off (on the right) that is sign posted for The Green Quarter.
This actually turned out to be better as it is right near the start of this walk
From the A591 heading towards Windermere, take the signposted right hand turn
for Staveley and Kentmere. Go through Staveley and follow the signs for Kentmere,
after around 3.5 miles down the narrow farm road, look out for a right turn that is
signposted for The Green Quarter. Roughly half a mile down this road there is a parking
space (free) for 3 cars maximum. The agreement with the locals is that the cars
MUST be parked as close as possible to the barn so as to allow for the free
movement of Farm traffic
From the car park carry on down the lane towards a small road junction
Heading towards the road junction
At the road junction take the right hand track
To our left, moody looking Kentmere Horseshoe from the path
The road is only followed briefly before it turns right through a wooden gate
Through the gate and the track turns from tarmac to grass
Make a sharp left turn before reaching a gate
Walk through both the gates and swing left
The path climbs gently. It can be followed all the way up to a metal gate, but
we chose to take a more direct path that follows a stone wall and wire fence.
Approximately 30 yards after passing this boulder we turned sharp right and
made our way over pathless grass towards the stone wall
Striking out right up the pathless grass field. Aim for the wall and then turn left
Follow the line of the wall, which bends to the right slightly further on
The wall now gives way to a wire fence. Keep as close to this as possible

Looking back towards the Green Quarter. The Garburn Road can be seen
climbing steeply upto the start of the Kentmere Horseshoe
At this point we are nearing the top of the path before we turn off for the summit
and to our left, a number of wild horses are allowed to run freely on the fell side
At the top of the track the fence turns sharp right. Go through this gate
to gain access to the summit approach
Through the gate take a sharp right and follow the grass trod
At this point (a gap in the wire fence) Green Quarter Fell is directly left
and Hollow Moor is directly right. Make a note of this as you will need to
go through it on your way from Green Quarter Fell to Hollow Moor
The summit approach to Green Quarter Fell. There is no right or wrong way
to cross this pathless terrain, just aim for the highest ground

Green Quarter Fell summit
Skeggles Water from the route to the summit
Prior to us undertaking this walk, Green Quarter Fell had no summit marker cairn.
I carried these rocks up to mark the summit, which I now wish to be known as
the "Marsh Cairn on Green quarter Fell" !!

From the summit we look back West towards Hollow Moor. The Quad bike
track can be seen leading up to the summit
So, we make our way back to the hole in the fence and set out along the
Quad bike track towards Hollow Moor summit
Look out for a big tuft of grass. Its debatable if this is the actual summit
OR an old stone gate post slightly further on
We chose to journey on to the old stone gate post and call that the summit
