Walk Overview
A very easy walk along a good path throughout and a magnificent vista on
top, that has one of the finest cairns in all the region
The B5285 road that runs North to High Wray is indeed very narrow and
parking the car for the start of this walk is complete pot luck. We were lucky
to find the only space that doesnt cause a blockage that was around 100
yards away from the path you need to take
From the parked car, head South back down the road for a short distance
and go through the handgate on your left
Through the gate and you can be in no doubt which fell it is that you
are about to start climbing
The path upwards is a bit boggy at first but improves as height is gained
An early view of Wetherlam from the track
The path follows the line of a wall and becomes more stony
At the marker post turn left
Follow the very visible track up to the dip at the top. This is the steepest
part of the climb but nothing too onerous
Looking across to the Langdale Pikes
Looking across to Hawkshead
In the latter reaches of the climb the path is stone stepped to assist
At the top of the steep climb you are rewarded with a magnificent
view of the Coniston range of mountains
The path levels off and becomes less steep as it journeys directly to the summit
Within minutes the magnificent cairn (Latterbarrow Man) comes into view
Approaching the summit of Latterbarrow
The summit cairn on Latterbarrow. Click here fore a 360 degree view
Looking North towards the mountains that make up the Kentmere Horseshoe
We were treated to a low level fly past of the Eurofighter
And also a rainbow over High Crag
