Walk Overview
Completely different weather conditions for our third walk in our week long stay
in Ambleside. Overcast, threat of rain and extreme high winds on the summit of
Skiddaw Little Man. The path from the Gale Road car park is very good, easy to
follow but quite steep. The ridge path over to Lonscale Fell is easy over grass.
Whilst travelling to the walk I took this picture from the A591 near St Johns in the Vale
which clearly shows the engineered path from Gale Road up to the col at Jenkin Hill
which we will be using to get to the two summits
The car park at Gale Road is the start point for this walk
Through the gate and turn left
The path follows the fenceline initially
Looking towards Grisedale Pike
The path meets a gate which gives access to the open Fell side
Passing the Halwell Monument
The start of the steep climb
Looking towards Derwent Water
Higher on up the path and Skiddaw Lesser Man peeps up over the horizon
Just before we reach the top of Jenkin Hill a first view of the summit of
Skiddaw Little Man
From the Col at Jenkin Hill make a left turn to start the climb to Skiddaw Little Man.
Here we are getting a good look at the path that we will be using to go to
Lonscale Fell
The steep climb up to Lesser Man initially
Difficult to stand up straight on Skiddaw Lesser Man
We continue up the path towards Skiddaw Little Man. Here we are looking across
to Carl Side, Long Side and Ullock Pike

Looking down to the Newlands valley from the summit
We journey back down to the Col at Jenkin Hill so that we can have lunch
out of the gale force wind. We passed these two guys on the way up!
Following the path to Lonscale Fell. Very easy walking on grass
