Walk Overview
A very pleasant walk with little in the way of steepness, in fact a very popular
dog friendly walk for the local residents of High Lickbarrow and Windermere.
We were robbed of the views over Lake Windermere and beyong due to the
extensive low cloud, but non the less a very enjoyable 3 mile yomp
There are plenty of routes to get to the start point of this walk. Approaching Lakeland
as we always do from the Northbound M6 at Junction 36, we chose to take the
sign posted road off the A591 at the Plumgarth roundabout and head for Crook along
the A5284. Passing Windermere Golf Club, look out for a minor road on the right
heading towards Low House Farm then follow the signs for High Lickbarrow.
There are a number of off road parking spaces available, the one we chose was
suitable for 2 cars to park freely
From the parking area head South for approximately 200 yards or so
and look out for a gate on the left
Through the gate to start the walk. Note the sign .. BEWARE OF THE BULL
Crossing the first field keep to the tree line and wall (just in case !!)
The path drops down a little in to an intake field
Cross the intake field and head for the gate
Through the gate and up the steps turning left at the top
Follow the road round to the right
Passing "Old Droomer" House
This is the start of the popular dog walk in truth. Through the gate and
follow the path
The old signpost points the way
The grass track splits, we followed the right hand track
The track rises gently as it leads towards a gate
The gate leading on to the open fellside
Through the gate a pick up the trail that leads to the summit
At this point the summit of Schoolknott is reached by keeping to the right
Thankfully the Bull wasnt around as we made our way gently around the cattle
Approaching the summit

Sue surveys the route to Grandsire
We set off on the path to Grandsire which drops down past Schoolknott Tarn
The path leads down to a gate in the wall. Go through it and turn left
The track runs parallel with the Tarn before it branches off and climbs
up to Grandsire
Passing Schoolknott Tarn
The path starts to climb steadily

To start the journey to the Nameless summit 1 head off East from the summit and
follow the line of the wall down hill
A clear grass trod drops down to the Dales Way main path
At the bottom of the grass trod turn right and head West on the Dales Way path
Follow the path trough a gate
Through the gate, and watch out for a faint grass trod on the left
which follows the linew of a broken wall
This path leads directly to the summit which is in effect just a large
stone on top of a wall

Not the most inspiring of summits you will ever visit
Looking towards Grandsire from the summit
We retrace our steps and return back to the Dales Way path
which heads towards a gate in the retaining wall
Through the gate and turn immediate left
Go through another gate
The path now heads back to High Lickbarrow and is easy to follow
The path becomes more rocky
The track eventually leads to a gate in the wall and the popular
dog walkers trails
Through the gate and shortly take the left hand track
Shortly after taking the left hand fork in the track we had the
great pleasure of bumping into Jane who was out with her dogs.
We stopped and chatted for some while on the merits of
walking in this wonderful part of the World. Very happy to have met you Jane
The track eventually leads back to a small road that passes the tiny Hamlet
Through the gate turn right
At the end of the lane turn right to return to the car
Returning back to the parked car about 300 yards or so
